What An Area Code is Used in Phone Number Search?

March 23, 2008

Using an area code with a telephone number is required when making long distance calls, and may also be required – depending on where you live -when making local calls. Area codes help you get in touch with the right person and vice versa. For this reason, it is imperative you make sure the right people are able to contact you by remembering to provide them your local area code with your phone number.

An area code, also known as the Number Plan Area (NPA), of a phone number, is extremely important. These three digits are what generally identify a geographical calling area of a switch that provides telephone devices within the area service. The NPA typically applies to the United States and Canada.

In most cases, without an area code, you will not be able to make a successful call. Therefore, if you have a phone number, but don´t have the area code and are not sure what it is, you can find the answer to your question by performing a reverse area code search.

You´ll also be able to discover if you are being phoned by a company with whom you are already doing business – such as your bank – and whose call you may actually like to receive, or if you are simply receiving yet another phone call from that telemarketer who is determined to sell you something you don´t want.

You can also use reverse toll free lookups to find out who has been calling while you are away at work, and whether it´s worth your while to try to call them back. Unknown callers will no longer be unknown to you.

Many online people finder sites that provide reverse phone and address lookups also offer a reverse area code service. In order to find the area code you are looking for you have two options.

1. Enter the city and the state or province – If you know where the person is living you can enter their location. Keep in mind that you must at least enter the city to run this search method.

2. Enter in an area code - If you have an idea of what the area code may be, enter it into search box and find out what geographical region it is linked to.

Once you have the correct area code and phone number, you can then do a reverse phone number lookup, which may be useful if you need to know more information about the individual who owns the number, such as finding out their name, address, or even background information.

Good article, reverse phone lookup directories can really be useful, especiallly the ones that offer complete services in one packege, like search by phone, name, address, SSN or even e-mail. In my personal experiance paying around $30 which the best of these directories cost for a whole year of service is well worth it.
